We’re proud to see our latest global UBI consumer study featured in Insurance Edge and Insurance Times UK. The coverage highlights key challenges that must be addressed for mainstream adoption of telematics-based motor insurance.
Usage-based insurance (UBI) offers fairer pricing and potential four-figure savings versus a standard motor premium. However, our research found 62% of UK motorists are concerned about sharing personal location data. Only 32% feel comfortable sharing their driving data.
This hesitation stems from fears around data misuse, security breaches, and lack of transparency. It’s less about “big brother” monitoring, which has traditionally been linked as the primary inhibitor of UBI growth.
Andrew Brown-Allan, our EVP of Growth, explains: “People need to feel they are in control of their own driving data – that it works for them, not against them. Carriers also can’t overlook just how concerned consumers remain about the security of their data.”
We’re proud to be driving this conversation forward and helping the industry understand what it takes to build trust in connected auto insurance, and tip over the inflection point for truly mainstream adoption.
